BIG freaking show this weekend. Kumail Nanjiani will be performing at Second City's own super swanky UP Comedy Club, which I highly recommend. Kumail, who got his comedic start right here in Chicago, is hotter then lava right now and keeps popping up in TV shows like Portlandia and Franklin & Bash as well as Late night with David Letterman. ALSO (and this is huge at least to me) local comics Will Miles and C. J. Toledano will host and feature respectively. Will and C.J. are talented hardworking cats that have been mentioned in this blog numerous times so you know the deal. Love the fact that UP management is actively booking real Chicago comics who have been grinding it out in the scene. So, enough said, watch the video, read Kumail's bio, then go buy your ticket!
"Kumail Nanjiani is leading the latest Chicago invasion of comedians in NYC. He has been featured in The New York Times, Variety's "10 Comics to Watch," the Hollywood Reporter's "10 Rising Comedy Talents" and New York Magazine's "10 Comedians that Funny People Find Funny." In addition to opening national theater shows for Zach Galifianakis and Stella, Kumail has performed his critically acclaimed one man show "Unpronounceable" (directed by Paul Provenza) at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in NY and Improv Olympic West in Los Angeles. In 2008, he received two ECNY awards for best male stand-up comedian and best one person show. This year, Kumail performed stand-up on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and Comedy Central's Live at Gotham. He has had memorable recurring roles on The Colbert Report and Michael and Michael Have Issues, for which he is also a writer. Next up, you can catch him on "The Late Show with David Letterman" or in the upcoming feature film "Life as We Know It," starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel."
