Weekly Top 5

It's been a few months but it's back - The Weekly Top 5! This segment gives out proper respect to events and/or artists that are rocking the scene. This list is subjective, based on opinions and only covers events we actually went to. So of course, we missed some shit. Here are the 5 BEST THINGS that happened last week.

Bill Cruz
The Roast of Bill Cruz: Chicago's favorite Gay Mexican, Bill Cruz is moving to Los Angeles so he had a "going way week" of shows which culminated in a roast of Bill at the super dive bar Galway Bay on Sunday night. It was epic and legendary at the same time. Hosted by CJ Sullivan, the line up was a nice who's who of the Chicago scene, but it was Bill himself that gave the performance of the night roasting the panel so hard (Sean Flannery, Junor Stopka, Adam Burke, Sean White & Adam Kroshus) that at one point I almost fell off my chair. Unfortunately it was such a good time that Bill, in fact did fall down after the show and practically broke his ankle. He now has a serious sprain which has thrown a small wrench in the whole going away scenario. Looks like poor Bill won't be moving until September. Get better Bill we love you.

The Social Take Over
The Social Take Over: Probably my favorite show right now. Demented Chicago comedians take over willing audience members Face Book accounts. Yep. It's as dangerous as it sounds. Pretty much an anything goes shit-show with an all star rotating cast of Chicago's best comedians. The whole thing is hosted by Michael Larimer, who really milks the whole innocent boy next store look/thing until he rips out the contestants spine with a post about how dear old grandma just died from herpes when they're not looking. Surprisingly the contestants are actually quite into the whole thing with no lack of willing participants. Highly recommended. Every Wednesday at The Laugh Factory.

Kelsie Huff
Klesie Huff: Wow, Kelsie has just been on fire lately. Not only did the comedian/writer/producer tottally destroy last week at the Laugh Factory, her set for the "Shit-Show Comedy" showcase at the The Comedy Exposition of 2014, was for me, the highlight of the festival. Many comedians do the same tried and true bits over and over, sticking with what works - but with Kelsie you NEVER know what your gonna get. SHE doesn't know what she's gonna do (and will tell you as much) until she gets out there. Crowd work, crazy bits, interpretive dance... Maybe. Who knows. It's as unpredictable as it is fucking hilarious.

Biran Babylon
The annual summer Bronzeville Comedy Showcase: Hell of a show last week. Hosted by Brian Babylon, this is the only outdoor comedy show in town right now. The immaculate Blanc Art Gallery, which is only 5 minutes from the loop on Lake Shore Drive, was the perfect location for this event. The line-up was killer, featuring Sean White, Prateek Srivastava, Alex Kumin, Ramon Rivas, Ali Clayton Tim Barnes and Bill Cruz headlining.
Only 3 shows left this summer:
July 30 - TONIGHT!
August 13
August 27
Cash Bar!
Ali Clayton
Ali Clayton: She was a stand out performer from the Bronzeville show last week. Ali Clayton is the real deal. Don't let the "dumb blond act" fool you, she plays that role like at ninja assassin. Before you know it Clayton has snuck up behind you and slit your funny bone wide open. Her sweet southern charms disguise a killers instinct. She pretty much had the crowd in her control from the get go. One to watch for sure.
