10 Shows You Should See @ Chicago Improv Fest

The Chicago Improv Festival (which kicks off this week) is in its 18th year, making it it the oldest and longest running Improv festival on the planet. With over 70 shows at 14 venues (The Playground Theater, Stage 773, Comedy Sportz Theatre & Second City just to name a few) it's a massive undertaking with a stacked schedule that attracts some of the best improv talent in the world. Running from  April 20-26 it's a defintiley a "do not miss" happening. Here's our pick of "10 shows to see at Chicago Improv Fest".

CIF18 PRIDE Night at Playground Theater
7:30 PM
PRIDE Night features several improv groups that highlight the positive in equal rights & sexual diversity. Curated by Jacob Welch - Artistic Director of the Laugh Out Proud Chicago Comedy Festival.

CIF18 One World, One Stage at Comedy Sportz Theatre, 7PM
Improv from around the world with performers from Poland, Romania, Mexico, Switzerland, and Brazil.

Los Improviachis at Comedy Sportz Theatre, 9PM
Iimprovised mariachi band performing traditional mariachi music & songs mixed with modern day improvisation with a lot of audience feedback.

Jason Chin Night: featuring 3033, Dinner for Six, Whirled News Tonight at Io Theater, 10PM
This years festival honors the legacy of Jason Chin with a posthumous CIF Lifetime Achievement Award (LAA) followed by outstanding performances from Dinner for Six, Whirled News Tonight, and 303, shows reflective of Chin’s inspiring spirit.

Messing with a Friend at Annoyance Theatre, 10:30PM
Features Chicago stalwart, Susan Messing performing a collection of self-edited improvised scenes based on a single suggestion. Also featuring special guest Jimmy Carrane.

Improv Nerd with Rob Belushi and Jon Barinholtz at Playground Theater. 1:30 PM
Improv Nerd is a popular weekly podcast hosted by Jimmy Carrane, well-known improv teacher and former Public Radio host. This special show features the improv duo Jon Barinholtz and Rob Belushi.

Impro Brasil & Improvised Double Dare @ Laugh Out Loud Theater -7:30PM
Improv group from Rio de Janeiro, + Improvised Double dare - which is Based on the ’80s/’90s Nickelodeon game show

99 Problemz, Improvised Star Trek, Shades of Grey @ pH Comedy Theater - 8PM
Improvised Star trek! Plus two other great shows... They had me at star trek.

Night of Change at de Maat Chicago Studio Theatre, 7:30 PM
Night of Change showcases African-American, Latino-American, Asian-American, LGBT, and many many other improv groups with culturally diverse backgrounds with the goal of highlighting the “changing” face of comedy.

The Katydids, Wild Horses at iO – Del Close Theater 8PM
Two great, back to back, all female improv groups to ready shake things up. The Katydids are a six member ensemble made up of Chicago’s best up and coming performers whose names all happen to be derived from Katherine. Wild Horses are a "super group" of long from improvisers from Los Angeles & UCB Theatre.

Jeffrey Sweet in You Only Shoot the Ones You Love at Stage 773, 4PM
Great opportunity to catch Improv legend Jeffrey in action, who has been involved in the Chicago scene since 1979. Recommended,
